Why I Sold My RED Camera for $20,000
In this video I share why I sold my RED Scarlett-W after owning in for 18 months and how you should think about your next camera purchase or that one you "dream" of owning one day.
I wasn't expecting to sell it so fast, but I did.
If you're really wanting to upgrade some piece of gear you own, the message in this video is for you.
Why You'd Use a 600mm Super-Telephoto Lens
One lens I've never owned or needed to use is a super telephoto zoom.
So I borrowed the Sigma 150-600mm Sports lens directly from them to share 4 reasons why you'd choose to film or photograph using a 600mm super telephoto lens (and 4 reasons why you probably shouldn't use one).
Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve Mini Panel Review
This is a review of the Blackmagic Design Resolve Mini Panel for color grading.
We’ll walk through all the controls and buttons on it as well as talk through who I recommend buying this.
I also compare it to the cheaper Micro version.
SwitchPod FAQ — Gorillapod Alternative for Vloggers
Since last month's SwitchPod announcement video after VidCon we've been working hard behind the scenes on finishing up the design and prototyping for our new tripod for vloggers.
In this video & post I give a little update on the timeline of when it is going to come out, how much it will cost, and a bunch more of the frequently asked questions we've been getting.
DJI Ronin S vs. Zhiyun Crane 2
I've held off on making any videos about three-axis gimbals, even though companies have sent me ones in the past, because I haven't found one that I'd actually use on a shoot.
But these two gimbals are reliable, heavy-duty, and help me get cinematic smooth shots when I need them.
There are many pro's and con's to each of these gimbals, especially when it comes to using heavier cameras, so Dave Altizer and I go through as many as we can.
YouTuber Roundtable #1 ft. Armando Ferreira & Matt D'Avella
Have you ever seen the videos where a handful of stars from movies or television (like directors, cinematographers, actresses, etc.) sit and chat in a roundtable format with The Hollywood Reporter?
They have deep conversations and share things you don't hear in the quick press junket interviews they normally give. They last about an hour. I love them.
Anyways, I've always wanted to host and re-create my own version of that and I finally did it.
From Quitting a 9 to 5 Job to Making Six Figures Freelancing
In 2011 I quit my corporate job working at Boeing to go work for a blogger (and took a big pay cut too).
5 years later, I was working for myself, making six figures a year.
It definitely hasn't been an easy journey, but here are some things I've learned along the way.
How to Land Your Dream Clients
Whether you're a full-time freelancer or you're trying to get your first client on the side, in this video I share my best strategies for how to land your dream clients.
If you struggle with "networking" or getting clients to hire you, the advice in this video will help you out.
How To Keep Creating When No One Is Watching
If you're trying to get more followers or build an audience online, but aren't growing as fast as you'd hoped, this video is for you.
Creating when no one is paying attention is hard, but you need to commit to the followers you do have.
We Invented a NEW Tripod for Vloggers — Meet SwitchPod
After working in private for over 7 months and finally filing the provisional patent, I'm excited to finally share my new invention!
I've been working with Pat Flynn and the team over at Prouduct to develop a brand new invention built specifically for vloggers.
Introducing my new invention: SwitchPod.
My Biggest Video Project Yet — I Am a Blogger
In this post I share a secret project that's currently launching on Kickstarter that I've been working on with a client for over a year.
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K — First Impressions
We checked out the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K at NAB 2018. Here is what we think.
Special thanks to Levi, Caleb, and Dave for sharing their opinions.
Why I Bought a 1080p Camera in 2018
When there are so many 4K cameras out there (even ones that I already own), why would I buy a 1080p Canon 80D in early 2018?
Tesla Model 3 Review — Hands-on Comprehensive Feature Walkthrough
In this video we review EVERYTHING about the Tesla Model 3. Jason rented the $60,000 version and we drove it around, pushed all the buttons, and made sure the car could fit two 6'4" people in the backseat.
Testing the "Tech YouTuber Lens" — Sigma Art 18-35mm f1.8 Review
I'd heard many tech YouTubers rave about the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 Art Lens, but I didn't fully realize how sharp and unique this lens is until I got it on loan from B&H.
The ability to focus so close to an object at 18mm and shoot at f1.8 gives an amazing look to the footage (or photos).
In this video I discuss whether if I were starting out and could only buy one wide-angle lens, would this be it?
Panasonic EVA1 Review — Why I'd Skip This Camera
In this review I'm taking a look at the brand new Panasonic EVA1 and I'll be talking about how it compares to other cameras like a Canon C200.
BEST Hard Drive for Video & Photo Editing? — Lacie 2Big 20TB Review
In this video I review the Lacie 2Big 20TB Thunderbolt Hard Drive and compare it to my Samsung SDD and Western Digital USB 3.0 HDD.
The ability to have just a single hard drive on my desk that has two enclosures to back up via a RAID system, can daisy chain to my Macbook Pro to charge it, and has SD & Compact Flash card slots makes this dock an all-in-one solution that I'll be using as my main hard drive for a while.
Loupedeck Review — The Adobe Lightroom Editing Console
This is Loupedeck. A photo editing console for Adobe Lightroom built specifically to speed up photo editing.
I won't make any promises like "it will DOUBLE your editing speed", but this is definitely faster than using a mouse to work your way down the adjustment sliders and both my wife and I noticed a decrease in how long it takes us to edit photos as well as a new found love for editing black & white photographs.
In this review I talk through what it is like to use it and how it made me enjoy editing photos again.
