Shoot Better Videos of Yourself (#NMX Talk)

About a month ago I had the pleasure of speaking and leading a 75-minute workshop at New Media Expo in Las Vegas all about DIY video.

In it I had on hand a bunch of the actual gear I use to shoot videos and cover proper lighting, recording great audio, where to frame yourself in camera, how to deliver a written script without a teleprompter, how to get a "blurred background", and more.

Here's a quick shot of the attendance, which blew me away to be honest. You can see my camera there too.

I also go over a ton of other things in this session including:

  • Visual: How to properly set up of 3 point lighting, get the "blurred background" look, and the best way to focus on yourself.

  • Audio: How to record great audio (without any echo), sync a separate recording devices, and use audio waves to help you save time during editing.

  • Delivery & Editing: How to deliver a written script (without a teleprompter), use simple editing tricks to keep watchers engaged, and get two camera angles out of one camera.

Be sure to check out the full list of gear, equipment, and software I mentioned in the workshop on this page.

Thanks to everyone that came out to it, asked questions, and encouraged me afterwards to write the DIY Video Guide that comes out in a few days.
