Pocket Changed’s Mission & Direction

After two months of writing and posting daily, I’ve realized what my main vision for Pocket Changed is and what path I would like it to take. Writing with a focus, I will be giving you as a reader a specific plan for what you can expect from me. In this post I will discuss my mission and future posting schedule.

My Mission Statement

The world needs people that are willing to change themselves and the lives of others for the better. I want to lead that charge. People will need figure out what they are passionate about on their own, but I want to give them the tools to succeed. My mission is to:

  • Guide people towards gaining control of their finances
  • Develop high performing individuals by advising their professional growth
  • Assist people in finding their passions and making more time for them
  • Urge people to follow their passions and improve the world around them
  • Help people become better versions of the only person they can be: themselves.

Everyday people carry around things in their pockets that weigh them down and keep them from doing what their heart desires:

  • Fear
  • Anxiety
  • Self-Loathing
  • Depression
  • Debt
  • Anger
  • Stressful Jobs
  • Expectations
  • Living Paycheck to Paycheck

What I want to do is to change what you fill your pockets with each day. I want you to carry around:

  • Confidence
  • Perseverance
  • Passion
  • Emergency Savings
  • Happiness
  • Job Satisfaction
  • Fulfillment
  • Financial Plans for the Future
  • Calmness
  • Simplification

The more often someone takes a step back from their life and looks at exactly what it is they actually want from it, the better off they are going to be. It is necessary at times to put the blinders on and push forward towards a destination, but only if you know that it is where you want to be. Together we’ll head towards the life that we want and create it one step at a time.

Posting Schedule

Starting Monday I will be posting articles on a new and simplified schedule based on what lessons I have learned over the last 50 days. I have also streamlined the categories of older posts into the simple titles: Money, Work and Life. While there are some past articles that fall into more than one category, the three groupings simplify the main focuses of what I want to help people with. The schedule will consist of three days a week for main posts, with ad hoc postings for announcements and other news.

Money Mondays

I think that any happy and successful person starts their life built around a strong financial foundation. In the same fashion, I will start off each week with a post about personal finance principles, tips or philosophies. They will consist of practices for budgeting, saving for goals, getting out of debt, increasing your income and the psychology of money.

Sometimes the post will be lists of ways to save money in a particular category of your budget. At other times it may be a deep discussion about materialism vs. minimalism. If you need to kick off your week fixing your finances after an expensive weekend, Money Mondays is the place to start.

Work Wednesdays

Topics for this section will revolve around professional development, productivity, career building and simplifying your work days. The goal of this section will also be to move you towards a career or job you enjoy doing. Even if someone despises their current job there are a lot of ways to make it more enjoyable and less painful.

If you start waking up in the morning excited for work without having to hit the snooze button, I will have done my job. If I can help make one day less stressful or motivate you to organize just a single drawer at work, it will be worth it. We spend a lot of time in our lives working and it is not okay to just work a job for a paycheck. Work Wednesdays should help get you over hump day and finish the work week with vigor.

Life Fridays

The more time I spend interacting with people the more I see lives being lived a certain way because they think they have to. I have lived my life like this for a long time and am on a personal journey to live how I want. Living the way everyone else does is highly overrated and it makes me feel trapped. I want to help people design their lifestyles around what they love to do. I believe that less is more; especially when it comes to passions and commitments.

These articles will revolve around simplifying your life, having fewer commitments, planning life goals, finding your passions and building your life around them. Our days are too busy, full of wasted time and in need of a major overhaul. Life Fridays will end the week talking about how to live a better life.

What this new schedule means for you:

  • More developed articles with thought provoking insights and additional tips
  • Less posts involving lists of ways to pinch pennies to save money
  • Guest posts from other writers with specific life stories to learn from
  • Simplified schedule and organization for information on changing lives

Let me know what you think of my focus and approach in the comments below.

I’m excited to have you all along with me on this journey of life change. Welcome aboard.
