Introducing the SwitchPod Ball Head

Exactly one year ago today we launched our Kickstarter campaign to raise money to create SwitchPod.

We had no idea it would take off like it did.

We met our funding goal of $100,000 in 12 hours and by the end of the campaign we raised over $415,000 from 4,148 people to make this thing a reality. We still can't believe it.

Fast forward a year later, we shipped over 10,000 SwitchPods to creators all over the world. To celebrate the anniversary of our initial launch, we've got a surprise in store today.

The one main thing we've heard from our backers, customers, and people interested in SwitchPod was they wanted one specific add-on.

The most asked question and request we got was "are you going to make a ball head?" So, while we recommended third party ball heads to put on top of a SwitchPod, we were secretly working on our next product. :)

And today, you're the first to find out about it: The SwitchPod Ball Head.

We didn't want to just rush into throwing together a ball head or white labeling an existing one out there.

We wanted to create a ball head that has the same main features of our SwitchPod tripod.

  • Lightweight.

  • Strong.

  • Quick to change.

  • Easy to use.

When we were visiting our factory before the mass production run of our tripods, we tested every ball head they had ever made and then we worked with them to create the strongest, simplest, and slimmest one we could.

Let's look at some of the specific features.

  • It has a 1/4"-20 thread on the bottom so you don't need an adapter to attach it to your SwitchPod.

  • It has 1/4"-20 tripod mount screw on the top.

  • The tightening knob is dual winged, so it is easy to loosen. It also pulls back into a different position if you need it at a different angle.

  • We made this thing as strong as we could. Even with a heavier camera and a long lens on it, it doesn’t budge or slowly sag over time.

  • There is a 90 degree portrait tilt for filming in vertical.

  • Just before you fully loosen the ball head, you can do a subtle 360 degree turn.

  • There is a rubberized non-slip circle pad to protect the bottom of your camera and make sure it is secured tight. But you can remove it if you need a longer tripod screw.

Our tripod was designed so you can quickly and easily attach a camera using the spinning knob, but if you want even more control over adjusting the angle of your camera and give it some more height, now you can.

So today we're opening up pre-orders of our new Ball Head.

For the first week, we're offering special pricing: $5 off.

If you bundle it with a SwitchPod you’ll save $10.

We flew over a handful of them early, but we will get our first large batch of inventory in mid to late February, so we will be shipping out all initial pre-orders in about 2 to 4 weeks from our warehouse.
